Empowering Doulas

Honoring the work. Supporting the worker. Strengthening the village. We welcome and empower doulas—centering Black, Indigenous, and multilingual practitioners—through training, mentorship, and meaningful connection as they support families in our local communities.

What We’re Building Together

Our Guiding Principles

The Doula Hub is a community-rooted program. We don’t promise quick money or high-volume caseloads. We offer something deeper: a values-led space where doulas can grow, serve, and stay connected to the families who need them most.

Here’s what shapes how we work:

  • Clarity & Consistency
We honor our roles, communicate expectations clearly, and move in ways that build trust for families and for each other.

  • Client- and Community-Centered Care
Families lead. We follow their choices, needs, culture, and lived realities.

  • Cultural Humility & Respect
We honor the traditions and identities that shape birth work and listen before we act.

  • Trauma-Aware Approaches
We assume people carry stories we may not know. We move gently, with consent and emotional safety at the forefront.

  • Reflection & Repair
We’re not perfect. We take ownership, stay curious, and move toward repair when things fall out of alignment.

  • Transparent Communication
We keep expectations clear, follow through when possible, and stay connected across roles.

  • Collaboration & Shared Learning
We learn with and from each other. Birth work is communal, not hierarchical.

  • Accessibility & Language Justice
We create systems and materials that meet people where they are, regardless of language, literacy, or learning style.

  • Collective Responsibility
We share the load and adapt when capacity shifts. No one should carry more than they can hold.

  • Sustainable Care
We build rhythms and boundaries that support long-term wellbeing, for doulas and for families.

If these principles resonate, you’re in the right place.

FAQs FOR HUB DOULAS:

What’s the difference between a Hub Doula and an Affiliate Doula?

Hub Doulas complete their doula training directly with PCMC through the Doula Hub and receive mentorship during their early practice.
Affiliate Doulas trained elsewhere and join our network to serve CCAH families but do not go through the Hub training or mentorship program.
Both are valued members of our community.

What trainings are required to serve CCAH families?

Doulas must be credentialed through DHCS using either the Training Pathway or Experience Pathway.
Both require proof of competency, basic documentation, and ongoing continuing education.
We walk through the details during onboarding.

What kind of mentorship is available?

Hub Doulas receive mentorship for their first twelve credentialed births, including clinical guidance, documentation support, and case reflections.
Affiliate Doulas can join community learning spaces but do not participate in formal mentorship.

How can I stay updated on events and opportunities?

Follow our private IG page @‌pcmcdoulahub and check your PCMC email for announcements, gatherings, continued education, and updates.

When is the next doula training?

Our next training is the Indigenous Doula Cohort in January 2026, which is full and reserved for Indigenous community members.
Future trainings will be announced on IG, our website, and the PCMC newsletter.

FAQs FOR AFFILIATE DOULAS

How do I get credentialed with CCAH through PCMC?

The credentialing journey has five steps:

  1. Complete required PCMC forms.
  2. Request an NPI (if needed) and prepare your PAVE application.
  3. Sign and submit your PAVE application.
  4. Sign and submit your CCAH application.
  5. Wait for CCAH approval.

Our Billing & Credentialing Specialist guides you through each step. You can start by submitting the Affiliate Application.

How do referrals and client matching work?

Families connect with the Hub first, complete intake, and then receive access to our internal Doula Directory. They choose their doula directly. Doulas are not assigned clients.

When can I start seeing clients?

You can begin once your CCAH approval is finalized and the family’s eligibility has been verified in our system.

Do I need my own practice, LLC, or office?

No. You may list an administrative location (often your home) on your credentialing forms. No physical office is required.

How do I document visits?

Documentation is completed in Doulado. We walk you through everything step-by-step during your onboarding and support your first submissions.

How does billing work through PCMC?

Submit your DAR notes within 7 business days and mark visits as Completed. Visits entered by the 20th will be included in that month’s billing batch. Doulas are paid after insurance reimburses PCMC, which can take up to 45 days if visit is submitted correctly meeting all documentation requirements.

What kinds of visits are billable?

Covered services include prenatal education, birth support, postpartum visits, basic lactation support, health system navigation, and extended postpartum care (when applicable). We cover what qualifies vs. what doesn’t during onboarding.

Do doulas get backup support?

As an independent contractor, you are responsible for arranging your own backup doula. Using someone who is already credentialed with the same insurance simplifies billing for births they attend.

What platforms and tools do doulas need to use?

PCMC email, Doulado, Google Calendar, Google Chat, and the private IG page @‌pcmcdoulahub.

Can I support non-CCAH clients through PCMC?

No. Only CCAH-covered services run through the Hub. All other clients should be managed through your personal doula practice.

Is continuing education offered through the Hub?

Yes. We offer learning spaces, workshops, documentation trainings, and community gatherings throughout the year.

What if I have questions or need support?

Reach out anytime. For general support: maryssa@parentingconnectionmc.org

How do I withdraw from the program or pause my caseload?

Email the PCMC Operations Team so we can support a smooth transition, notify families if needed, and update credentialing records.
