We acknowledge that we are on the unceded ancestral homelands of the Esselen, Rumsen, and Ohlone peoples, who have stewarded these lands along the central coast of California since time immemorial. We honor their enduring relationship with the land, water, and all living things. We recognize the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization and displacement, and we affirm our commitment to Indigenous sovereignty, healing, and justice.

We also acknowledge the labor—past and present—of Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian, and immigrant communities, whose contributions have built and continue to sustain Monterey County. In particular, we recognize the essential role of farmworkers, many of whom are Indigenous and of Mexican origin, who labor under unjust conditions to feed our communities.

We offer this acknowledgment not as a one-time statement, but as a living commitment to equity, relationship-building, and reparative action in all that we do.
